How can you use social media stories to generate interest and a consistent audience who continues to view your content? Consistency, and knowing what to post where. People come back when they are drawn back. Continuously update your followers.
A Breakdown of Social Media Stories
Snapchat first developed stories on their app and Instagram saw the rise in it’s popularity, and quickly developed their own version of stories. Although it came out second, Instagram stories have grown to be more popular than Snapchat stories. They both have the option to post a picture or video for 24 hours that all of your followers, or your selected followers, can view. Facebook even has it’s own version of stories, but because of their main audience and active users, the concept has not yet caught on.
Snapchat vs. Instagram Stories
Neil Patel discussed in a YouTube video that to draw attention and viewers, you must be using both forms of media, not one of the other. If you are on one, you should be on the other. Go after both audiences on the sites. He states that it is incredibly simple to create content for one and then save it and post it right onto the other account.
Content to be Posting
Patel also lays out what you should be posting for good marketing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvtK954les4&t=35s He first says that what you post should line up with each other. It should not be random food pictures then a picture of a puppy. It cannot be randomized images or clips.
He then states that you should always get your viewers to want to come back. Build anticipation with your viewers. I thought it was cool when he referenced that Apple always releases hints and information on social media to get their enthusiasts to follow their accounts. A good tip would be to leave your audience with a cliff hanger such as stating: “Check out my post tomorrow for ten tips on how to stay busy this quarantine season!”
He then discusses how we should be continually posting on said stories. This is different than posting pictures on your feed since this is a temporary message you are sending to your viewers. It is socially acceptable to continue to post on your stories throughout the day.

Rhianna slammed Snapchat in 2018 which really effected the app’s share price. Snapchat had glamorized the domestic violence incident that Rhianna and Chris Brown were involved in previously. Kylie Jenner had the Snapchat share price plummet simply by tweeting that she never opens the app anymore.
